Surgical Technician

Weymouth, MA
South Shore Health is seeking a Certified Surgical Technician (CST) to join our surgical services team in Weymouth, MA. In this full-time role, you’ll work across a broad range of operating room specialties, gaining hands-on experience with diverse procedures in a supportive, community-based hospital environment. This is primarily a 7:00am to 5:30pm shift position with rotation to weekends and nights as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Assist surgeons, anesthesia staff, and nurses by preparing and passing sterile instruments and equipment throughout procedures
- Maintain aseptic technique and infection control standards, reporting and addressing any breaks in the sterile field
- Set up and operate surgical equipment, including electrosurgical, diagnostic, and specialty devices specific to each case
- Track surgical counts (sponges, needles, instruments) with accuracy and handle all specimens according to protocol
- Support safe patient positioning and comfort under the direction of the surgeon or RN, and help ensure efficient room turnover
- Utilize hospital technology (email, EMR) for communication and documentation, and follow all safety protocols, body mechanics, and emergency procedures
- Serve as a preceptor and role model for new staff, supporting onboarding and skill development
Qualifications:
- Completion of an accredited Surgical Technician Program required
- Certification as a Surgical Technician preferred
- Current certification in ACLS, ERT, or equivalent emergency response training required
- Strong understanding of surgical protocols, sterile technique, and operating room procedures
- Excellent teamwork, communication, and organizational skills
